This past weekend, the city of Ottawa saw something thrilling. Although summer had not officially begun, the festivals waited for no man and kicked off regardless. One such festival was the Glowfair.
Summed up in three words – “Music + Light + Art” – Glowfair is a free, annual street party that often spans 10 blocks of the famed Bank Street in Ottawa. Predominantly comprising of two music stages, live bands and DJ acts, the festival celebrates art on a grand scale as it also features glow-in-the-dark yoga, paintings, flash tattoos, interactive games, amongst others.
Upon arrival, festival goers are greeted with mind-blowing street performances to ready them for the main event of the night. From acrobats to local musicians, jugglers and tricksters, the pre-show was nothing short of an exhibition of pure talent and dexterity.
Covering the 10-block radius were the ‘Sound Board,’ ‘Energy Zone,’ ‘Art Chaos,’ ‘Bizarre Bazaar,’ ‘Glow Fit,’ ‘Marketplace,’ ‘Canadiana,’ and ‘Glow Forest’ blocks.
It certainly is a weekend that the city knows no sleep, especially amongst the younger crowd – the millennials, as we call ourselves ;). You simply cannot say you are bored while you’re here, there is always something to do, and you can see for yourself:
Millennials being millennials, perhaps?
In a nutshell, the plethora of activities makes it a well-rounded event because regardless of what your interests are, you have something to enjoy. Events like these truly epitomize the (underrated/undiscovered) talent that exists in Ottawa.
With so many more festivals on the way, what might our next stop be?
